Why the ABSA?
We at ESSFA understand that surgical professionals come from diverse and dynamic backgrounds. We choose to seek and obtain course approval from the American Board of Surgical Assistants because ABSA also understands this concept. Anyone who meets the eligibility requirements can take the ABSA national certification exam. Different eligibility requirements exist for physicians (U.S. or foreign trained) and licensed/non-licensed allied health professionals.
The ESSFA creators, course instructors, clinical education specialists, and medical advisors believe in the code of ethics adopted by the ABSA and their purpose. The ABSA has and is actively working towards advancing the role of the Surgical Assistant – Certified.
